The International Terminal at O'Hare is amazing, not for the infrastructure, but the people you see if you sit down for a few minutes and just watch! We enjoyed an overpriced, but delicious dinner at tocco. We weren't really exhausted by this time, just stiff, so we walked around and played celebrity lookalikes. I spotted a pretty convincing Ernest Hemingway.
The flight to Dublin was very long, not because of the actual time It took, but because we were really sleepy, but couldn't sleep. When the attendants woke us at midnight, our time, to eat dinner, we discovered that the vegetarian meal was Indian food! Who knew? Midnight Marsala can be very tasty. We contorted ourselves into various Cirques de Soliel acrobatic positions and just waited, mostly. It wasn't the worst thing ever, just hard to be patient. We were flying at 39,000 feet, so seeing the ocean as I'd hoped was not possible.
We arrived at 10 am and got our backpacks, which had been very neatly bagged up by the airlines to prevent damage. (The bags got torn, but our packs were unscathed.) We got to our hotel and they let us check in early-Yay!
Added bonus: this hotel offers both UK and US style electrical outlets.
All in all, it was fun and interesting and the screaming baby a few rows ahead of us was medicated right before takeoff, so no complaints, really.
