Mueller State Park, CO

We spent 3 days in our RV at Mueller State Park, CO.

We learned that sleeping at 9,500 ft. elevation does affect us negatively.
But there are plenty of shorter, more accessible hiking trails so we still got to do a lot of hiking every day.

We saw one small flock of turkeys, numerous deer, a plethora of chipmunks and ground squirrels, only one black Abert's squirrel, and numerous bird species (some rather aggressive).

Unfortunately, not a single moose or even elk sighting, even though other campers mentioned their recent sightings. :-/
Just plenty of great mountaintop views.

Guernsey SP WY

Guernsey State Park is about 3 hrs drive from Longmont, CO. So a good days' distance for us to go directly north.

Their RV campstites aren't exactly level, and they're not paved, so the muddy-gravel mixture makes using leveling ramps problematic.
A very active railroad runs through the middle of the park. We heard (and saw) trains running through every 30-60 mins, about 100 yards from the SW campgrounds. The trains run 24 hrs /day, so you do get used to the low rumble noise by nightfall (thankfully there were never any train whistles that we heard).

Be aware that many roads in the park are gravel, so weather may affect road conditions more than usual. While the main Visitor Center / CCC Museum is very nice with an excellent view, it can be a tricky uphill gravel climb in an RV.
Guernsey SP has perpetual algae blooms so they drain the reservoir once /yr. If boating or swimming, you'll likely not want to visit during the draining month.

We did see numerous small flocks of turkey, various other birds, and a few deer.
On the drive up we saw some pronghorn deer, and of course the ranch of bison.

Other than watersports and some nice views of the Guernsey Reservoir, the main draw of this location for us was the central location to some neat history.

Very close by are historical sites for the Oregon Trail.
Torrington, WY also has a neat museum that may be convenient to visit.

A good hour north, the small town of Lusk, WY has an amazing Stagecoach Museum. Unfortunately, there's not much else to Lusk, so may not be worth the drive for everyone.

Post-webhost Post

My old webhosting company kept getting more expensive and difficult to deal with, so I finally quit them.
Thus, I'm temporarily back on the old free Blogger setup, mainly just to park my domain while I regroup.

I'm currently trying to decide whether I should just put all my existing Drupal, Wordpress, and PHP website code back on another standard cPanel webhost, or...
take the time to set myself up in the cloud. (Likely Google, but possibly AWS or even Azure). Any suggestions?

Until that happens, I don't expect to be blogging much here, since I haven't even bothered to port over all the old blog posts from the last few years.

In conclusion: Stay tuned. Under construction. [insert img of construction guy shoveling] :)

NCMA Trail and Village Deli

Nice weather this Saturday morning, so we decided to walk the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) outdoors art trail.

We weren't smart enough to figure out the purpose of the "You're in the picture" exhibits.

The "Cloud Chamber for the Trees and Sky" was a cool experience.

There is usually a nice breeze across the open area where the larger exhibits are stationed.

After a long day hiking the trails we figured a visit to nearby Village Deli was in order. They have a number of tempeh-based entrees that are great. This time, we ordered a reuben (slightly too strong sauerkraut), and a Philly sub. The crinkle-cut fries and coleslaw are awesome sides. Quite filling.
